Been at odds trying to curate/collect perspectives for an upcoming feature piece on the local beat scene, partly because I realize I don’t really know a thing, and partly because translating this murky electronic territory takes adjectivery that requires a dictionary to say the least…For all the terminology (chillwave, dopewave…etc) it’s hard to tell whether these terms (like a lot of things) really go further than slick classification that’s good for hashtagging, SEO engines and?
While vocab. practice will be happening before further article writing goes on (editors don’t worry..) …excited to feature the above tracks/artists simply because they transmit & translate futuristic sound rooted with a unique organic depth. Attracted to these tracks for their intricate layers that embody story, carrying unparalleled rhythmic intelligence, these tracks are the work of craftsmen; artists adept at building a landscape of sorts that is able to blend repetition with innovation and fuse cultural influence with diverse perspective for a narrative that, by virtue of geography, is set to influence and become formative in the local community.
For a more indepth look at SD happenings within the scene check out creative collective, Kill Quanti who I first was introduced to via a broadcast by Bird Rock Radio, another (local) underground venture well worthy checking into.
