terribly terrible at checking e-mails, (especially in summer) so thankful (relatively) registering for school prompted me to check my spam & found a little gem OUTSIDE LANDS PRESS PASS…yikes! though last minute, couldn’t be more excited to embark on a little road trip & check out a few new acts lately can’t get enough of (plus lots of old favorites…Andrew Bird, Beck, Justice, Santigold…holyy!) Not sure when we’ll roll into town but gonna kick things off Friday night with a free party w/ Giraffage  & go from there.. gah so dang excited, hoping to hear this in person!!

Here are a top artists excited to check out at the fest:

    Wallpaper.

Has a little bit of an Odd Future vibe meets Mac Miller meets? Not so sure.. but down with the East Bay style EDM mixed w/ white boy rap courtesy of Ricky Reed welcome to his ‘breakout’ “#STUPiDFACEDD,” which (rumor has it) may be preformed with a gold-plated microphone…

    Die Antwoord

“Futuristic rap wave crew” may be the PR approved adjectives assigned to this South African fusion of freakish beats and surreal imagery… but uhh….OF COURSE I LIKE IT! it’s gleefully trashy and deliciously catchy so pretty excited to catch the Afrikaan songstress & co that has even Katy Perry humbled & awed by her majesty Yo-Landi Vi$$er, the head of the Zef crew that make up this weird ass brillantness.

    Electric Guest

Sharp 180 from Die Antwoord, but…Got it bad for Los Angeles based Electric Guest…love this track for it’s strange twinge of nostalgia…Electric Guest is reminiscent of the O.C for me, remember those playlists that would compile at the end of each season with lot of soft-twinged gems like this? Best part is…kinda hard to cheesy pop delicious and binge listen to ‘em as the frontman Asa Taccone’s brother, Jorma, is actually a  the Lonely Island and helped come up with Saturday Night Live song-skit Dick in a Box…  so while this 8 min. baroque masterpiece sounds straight circa 1975, there are a lot of lovely half-turns on the album including 80s-slick synths & a few hip-hop inflections if you can keep from bumping this on repeat…

    Big Gigantic

This track is a bit hard to bump in the beginning unless you’re particularly good at belting out the Broadway show tunes (i’m not) but builds brilliantly, breaking into delicious EDM mayhem with perfection…excited to see what this Colorado based meld of sax, jazz, instrumentation & classic electronic will get into live…Heard they’re an “experience,” combining lots o’ lazers & visual elements with some of their more well-known hits, (Black & Yellow-Wiz Khalifa, I Need A Dollar-Aloe Blacc,Al0e Blacc, which is one of my personal favorites) so pretty stoked to drop in on this for a bit..
