Been exploring the beat scene in SD for a bit now, partly for an article, partly out of curiosity. After stopping by a show on Kettner at the Kava Lounge a few weeks ago w/ MatthewDavid, knew couldn’t call it quits with my investigation til I got to pick the brain of one of my favorite local artists doin’ it at the moment, Mr. Whipple!
Got the chance to kick it for a minute yesterday before he heads to LA this Wednesday to open at Low End Theory !! A huge up, to say the least…and a pretty crazy story about how the simple act of introducing and explaining what you do and why, can, with time, and true pursuit, turn into the opportunity of your dreams…. but more on that conversation in future times. For now? No doubt, with his unique mix of heavy bass tones and intricate melodies this kid will tear it up..
